On November 16th 2023,the “China-Australia Crafts Festival: Joint Workshop between Shandong University of Art and Design (SUAD) and Griffith University Queensland College of Art and Design (QCAD)” was held at SUAD Changqing Campus.

Qiao Xiaoguang, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor from China Central Academy of Fine Arts, hosted the workshop and delivered a lecture entitled “Millennium Inheritance: Chinese Paper Cutting and World Paper Cutting”. His lecture started from the discovery of paper-cutting on the Silk Road in ancient China, where a piece of red paper and a pair of scissors were transformed into a vivid and ever-changing art form, giving students a deep impression of the unique charm of Chinese intangible cultural heritage. Qiao also introduced his efforts to travel throughout China to find the inheritors of traditional paper-cutting and to bring Chinese paper-cutting to the world. During the interactive session on site, Qiao Xiaoguang demonstrated paper-cutting art, inspiring students to follow suit and express their own ideas through this medium. At the end of the workshop, a myriad of exceptional and distinctive artworks was created.

More than 30 students from QCAD and SUAD participated in the workshop. Following the conclusion of the event, Wang Xiaojuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of SUAD, Han Wentao, Vice President of SUAD, and Qiao Xiaoguang presented the workshop certificates to the participating students. As part of the workshop experience, the students also visited the Chinese Folk Art Museum on the campus.
